Belleville Volunteer Fire Department is located in Calhoun County in the midlands of South Carolina just North of the town of St. Matthews. We serve a rural community with a population of around 1,600 and no industry. We have a small city water system with hydrants and use dry hydrants and ponds for additional water supply. The department has a ISO Class 7 fire protection rating.
The Belleville Vol. Fire Department was founded in May 1982 by members of the local crime watch who saw a need for fire protection in our area. At that time, there were only two other fire departments in the county. We started with one converted fuel tanker/pumper that was kept in a members yard. Within a year we had a fire station built and two more trucks. All this was done using funds raised by the department and without the aid of any tax money.
Today we have two fire stations, with a training/meeting building at the main station. We have seven trucks with a combined total of over 10,500 gallons of water and a pumping capacity to deliver over 4,500 gallons per minute. We have 17 members on our department and are always looking for new recruits. With the hard work and dedication of the men and women of the Belleville Volunteer Fire Department, we will continue to grow to better protect and serve our community.
